Forgotten Traditions

Forgotten Traditions is inspired by Karen's journey to rediscover her Yemenite Jewish roots. Growing up in Canada, she never quite understood her father’s silence about his past in Yemen and his early years in Israel. After moving to Israel as an adult, she felt a sense of belonging with the Yemenite community but never sought to question or understand the traditions or history she was part of.

With the passing of her elder Yemenite family members, Karen has taken it upon herself to preserve these fading traditions for her own children before they are lost. This exhibition marks the beginning of her exploration into the rich history of Yemenite Jews, focusing on the cultural erasure they experienced in their exodus into Israel and the push for modernization.

Through the lens of the Yemenite bridal Henna ceremony, Karen seeks to reconnect with and pass down a heritage she never fully understood. This exhibition is a celebration of rediscovery, a reflection on what was lost, and an invitation to join Karen on her journey to reclaim forgotten traditions.
